Art I Don't Have to Sell

2 years ago I stopped painting and started "Doodling." I was frustrated with making artwork I felt that I HAD to at least try to sell. It was liberating to draw and not feel that pressure. So I called my doodles "Art I Don't Have to Sell." Even started a blog about it. (that I didn't keep up) Art I Don't Have to Sell Blog

Oddly these doodles turned into my first coloring book, "Strange Designs." So surprise surprise! I DID sell that art. I guess if there is a moral to this story it's that sometimes when you give up and just work from the heart that's when the magic can happen.

Here is one of my early doodles.  Obviously didn't know it was for a coloring book since I colored part of it in.

I Love Hearts!

Well, I went and did it.  I made a coloring book of hearts for Valentines Day and beyond.  I really like how it turned out.  The pages are really cute and fun to color.  But drawing the darned thing made me a little crazy.  How many ways can you draw hearts?  Well apparently I found 36 ways.

There are 36, one-sided pages in this book and there are plenty of hearts on every page.  I've been coloring it myself and really like the designs.  It's available only on Amazon.  Here is the cover of the book.

Brainstorming!!!

Just playing around with different drawings trying to get an idea for something new.  Valentines Day is next month and I am thinking of doing a hearts and flowers book.  Problem is will it only sell at Valentines Day?  I am dropping the idea of making a journal.  I really can't make myself like it.

No New Books

Well, November and December have been good selling months as I had hoped.  And although it's nice to be selling the books I already have it's hard for me to not be making a new book.  But I am stumped as to what I want to make next.

I've done Complicated, Intermediate, Simple and Super Simple.  I've done a tiny book.  I've done a book of foxes.  I need a new subject and I haven't quite figured that out.  Think maybe I should just start drawing and use it even if it isn't the freshest, newest idea ever.  Someone has already done a cuss word book.  Maybe I should do a book of negative affirmations.    That would be funny.  I'm awful at hand lettering though.

Maybe I need to do some meditation on this.  Maybe then something will come to me.
